Introducing Tootsie, a tiny and delicate pup who managed to survive the cruel and inhumane dog meat truck industry. Despite her small size of only 2.5 kg, Tootsie was saved from a terrible situation in a very poor state. She was suffering from an ear infection caused by bacteria, a severe skin mite infection that affected her entire body, and was also fighting distemper. Adding to her woes was a degenerative spinal disease which resulted in bone spurs along her spine, preventing her from moving freely or standing up straight.
Upon the initial discovery of Tootsie, the immediate course of action was to provide her with a skin treatment, which required her fur to be shaved. In order to alleviate her pain and distemper symptoms, medication was administered, but unfortunately, her condition remained serious. Her backbone and hind legs were stiffened as a result of bone spurs, resulting in an ongoing treatment plan. Nevertheless, despite her weakened state, Tootsie exhibited outstanding tenacity and battled fiercely to stay alive.
To help Tootsie recover, she received acupuncture treatment thrice a week and daily exercise to boost her leg strength. Her caretakers provided her with comfort, safety, and nutritious food while giving her round-the-clock attention. Unfortunately, the one thing they couldn’t provide was a permanent home, which greatly saddened them as they watched Tootsie’s courageous fight for survival.
Tootsie showed improvement despite struggling with poor health. She developed a healthy appetite and her mood was lifted, giving hope to those who cared for her that she could find a permanent home where she would be loved and comfortable. Unfortunately, Tootsie’s body could not keep up and she ultimately passed away in a serene manner.
Tootsie’s tale is a poignant reminder of the brutality and heartlessness associated with the trade of dog meat. It serves as a stark illustration of the agony and disregard that countless animals go through in this line of business. Tootsie’s determination and strong spirit in the face of such hardships speak volumes about the unyielding desire to survive that animals possess, even when their situations seem bleak.
