“Shakira Rocks the VMAs with a High-Energy Video Vanguard Honors Performance”

During the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night, Shakira, the Grammy-winning artist, celebrated her successful career spanning several decades with a 10-minute performance filled with hits. To begin her performance, Shakira danced to “She Wolf,” featuring the impressive choreography seen in the song’s famous music video released in 2009. She quickly transitioned into “Te Felicito,” a collaboration with Rauw Alejandro, and then followed up with “TQG,” which she recorded with Karol G. Additionally, Shakira revisited her early career by singing and belly dancing to “Objection,” “Whenever, Wherever,” and “Hips Don’t Lie.” During her performance of “BZRP Music Sessions #53,” Shakira crowd surfed through the audience, where a fan held a Colombian flag in her honor.

Upon the conclusion of her performance, the singer made her way to receive the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award from Wyclef Jean. In her acceptance speech, Shakira expressed gratitude towards her family and creative collaborators, as well as her devoted fanbase or “army”. It is noteworthy that she is the first South American musician to be honored with this award, joining the ranks of past recipients such as Beyoncé, Madonna, and Justin Timberlake. Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events for Paramount, praised Shakira’s global influence and innovation in Latin music. Her impact on the industry is undeniable, and her contributions will continue to resonate for years to come as she pushes the boundaries of creativity and entertainment.

Shakira had a successful year with various hit collaborations including “Monotonía” with Ozuna, “BZRP Music Sessions #53” with Bizarrap, “TGQ” with Karol, and “Copa Vacía” with Manuel Turizo. She was nominated for four awards at the recent ceremony, including artist of the year, best collaboration for “TQG” with Karol, and best Latin video for “TQG” and “Acróstico.” Shakira previously won her first Moon Person in 2000 for “Ojos Así” and has since won in categories such as “Whenever, Wherever/Suerte” and best choreography for “Hips Don’t Lie.”
