“Plight of a Stranded Pooch: Overwhelmed with Ticks, Unable to Stand Due to Pain and Exhaustion”

On Tuesday, even the toughest rescuers in Donna, Texas, were surprised to see a dog brought into their remote animal shelter covered in ticks. The puppy had been living on the streets of Texas and was in such dire condition that she was close to death. She stumbled into the yard of a stranger who promptly called Dallas Dog – Rescue. Rehab. Reform for help. The dog was infested with bloodsucking ticks all over her body, making it difficult to even recognize her. The ticks covered her ears, breast, back, and paws, and the poor dog was in desperate need of medical attention.

The woman was extremely weak due to her anemia that she could barely stand on her own. She was rushed to the hospital where she underwent vital treatment and received a blood transfusion. Dallas DogRRR-Rescue.Rehab.Reform based in Allen, Texas, shared on their Facebook page how Amora, a stray dog, approached someone’s yard and asked for help. The rescue team announced that it was her lucky day as they took her to their partner vet for medical attention. Amora’s condition is labeled critical, and the team plans to stabilize her health before bringing her to Dallas. At present, her chances of recovery are uncertain.

The good news arrived the following day! According to a source on the ground, “Mi Amor made it through the night.” They are just now approaching the hospitalized patients and will begin feeding her soon. More ticks have arrived, and while they’re okay with me dropping by to check on her and help with her cleaning, I’ll wait until the office is ready. Another CBC will be done this morning to determine if she requires additional transfusions. I’ve asked them to inform us as soon as possible if she needs to be transferred to another facility for further treatment or transfusions. All remaining ticks were removed on the same day.
After a few days, Amora was ready to be fostered. A volunteer from Dallas Dog – Rescue.Rehab decided to adopt her from the Reform shelter.

According to Amora’s foster mother, when she first received the frightened cat, it was a challenge to get her out of the car. Amora was too scared to interact with her foster mother’s dogs at first, but they were curious about her. Her foster mother comforted her until she eventually warmed up to the new company and became friends with her female German Shepherd Ava. Amora can still be skittish at times, seeking refuge on the bathroom mat or dog beds when she is afraid. However, she has become more trusting and confident, especially when she’s around other dogs or her person. The foster mother is working on helping Amora get used to car rides, harnesses, being picked up, and baths. Eventually, Amora found her forever home and is now living with her brother and going to work every day with her father.
