Wangwang, an eight-year-old German shepherd, may have retired from her duties in the police department back in 2019, but she still has a strong recollection of her time serving. She has not forgotten her handler, whom she worked with while serving as a sniffer dog at security checkpoints located in Henan province’s Xichuan Police, according to reports from the Daily Star.
Wangwang was given a new home after her retirement, but this also meant bidding farewell to her handler. According to Xichuan Police, while police dogs are adequately fed at the training center, officers are unable to spend time playing or working out with retired dogs.
When Wangwang met her ex-partner again, the experience was so intense that the dog couldn’t hold back her emotions and cried. The Xichuan Police posted a video of their heartfelt reunion on Douyin, which is similar to TikTok. In the footage, Wangwang excitedly approaches her former companion and gets some affectionate belly rubs, all while her eyes fill up with tears.
One comment from a reader expressed their concern for the dog’s well-being, citing their loyalty as companions and urging for proper treatment. The post itself mentioned that the dog, Wangwang, was getting older and had white hair, but was also well-fed and a bit overweight. Another observation was made about how the dog would greet people, specifically belly up, which was interpreted as a sign of missing their handler.
