A veteran’s final wish to reunite with his beloved dog has been fulfilled as he lays in his deathbed at the Raymond G Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Centre in New Mexico. John Vincent, who is 69 years old and served in the Marines for three years, asked a palliative social worker if he could see his five-year-old Yorkie, Patch, one last time. Despite not having any family members living close to him, the hospice care and Albuquerque Animal Welfare centre, where Patch was up for adoption, made arrangements to make Mr Vincent’s wish come true. The welfare centre explained on Facebook that the elderly man had no choice but to put Patch up for adoption when he was admitted into hospice.
The article reported on a veteran named John Vincent who was forced to surrender his dog, Patch, to a shelter in New Mexico due to not having any family in the area. With limited time left, Vincent had one last wish to see his beloved pet before passing. Fortunately, workers at the shelter were able to reunite the pair for an emotional goodbye. The shelter expressed their joy in making Vincent’s final request a reality, and later confirmed that Patch had been adopted by a new owner.
The heartwarming post was accompanied by touching photos of the two being reunited in Mr Vincent’s hospital bed. One image showed them gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes while in another, Patch planted a lick on Mr Vincent’s chin. According to the Albuquerque Journal, both were equally excited to see each other, with Mr Vincent asking Patch if he was happy to see him. The Facebook post received hundreds of comments praising the team responsible for the reunion. Many thanked Mr Vincent for his service to the country and expressed their love for Patch, hoping he would find a home where he would be loved just as much.
