The Asian crested ibis, also known as the Japanese crested ibis, is among the leggy wading birds categorized under the Threskiornithidae family. They inhabit areas in Korea, Japan, China, and eastern Russia.
The crested ibis is only found in the wild in the Chinese province of Shaanxi, as their population has been decimated by hunting and they are now one of the most endangered bird species on the planet.
Many wildlife species are confined to captivity and undergo strict supervision and care. Once they reach a certain age, they are released back into their natural habitat to boost their numbers. This initiative is undertaken by the respective governments of the concerned countries.
