On November 5th, a sweet dog named Benki was left alone in Lara, Venezuela. Unfortunately, he was blind and had also lost his right hind leg.
Benki showed signs of being a victim of sexual abuse, a common occurrence among male dogs from puppy mills. These breeding facilities often discard parent dogs once they are no longer useful for profit. In Benki’s case, his owners blinded him to prevent him from escaping and then amputated his right hind leg.
Thankfully, the X-ray showed that there were no major internal injuries for Benki. However, the emotional toll on him is a significant worry. Being blind is a new experience for him and he became lost very quickly, causing him to cry out loudly. The veterinarian tried to soothe him by talking to him extensively.
The good news is that he is an intelligent and mature dog.
After spending a week in a safe place, he noticed a significant improvement in his emotional state. Additionally, he was able to learn how to identify the source of sounds within about 10 days of practice.
Benki has become a completely normal dog again. However, he gained weight due to inadequate physical activity. Fortunately, his foster parent is making an effort to help him feel more secure by encouraging him to go up and down the shelter stairs and showering him with unconditional love.
He is currently in the process of searching for a new forever home for him.
