Fearless Cop Braves Dark Tunnel and Saves Terrified Pup with Bare Feet

The kind-hearted Officer Joe Brazil is always ready to lend a helping hand. Recently, he went above and beyond by rescuing a dog in need. Peggy Edwards shared this heartwarming story on Facebook on May 2, 2016, and it quickly gained popularity as it touched the hearts of many.

Joe, who serves as a police officer in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, played a significant role in Peggy’s story. It all began when a car spooked a small and nervous Yorkshire terrier. The little dog took off running and sought refuge in a nearby tunnel. Fortunately, Officer Brazil was there to save the day.

Last April 30th, a tiny dog was spotted wandering around freely but unfortunately got frightened by a passing car. It accidentally hit a tunnel that runs through a local creek which left it stranded about 20-25 feet in and clinging to the edge. Peggy took it upon herself to share her story on Facebook as she wanted to help the poor dog. However, despite her instincts telling her to assist the dog, she was hesitant to do so fearing that it might retreat deeper into the tunnel. Luckily, she had an idea to call the Woonsocket Police Department for help, and Officer Joe Brazil quickly arrived on the scene ready to assist.

Peggy shared what happened, and the brave Officer was more than willing to help out. Without any hesitation, he jumped in and came back with a soaking wet yet relieved little dog. What a hero! Peggy was overjoyed and expressed her gratitude for his help. The Officer even took off his shoes and socks before entering the tunnel to rescue the helpless pup.

WJAR NBC10 managed to speak with the Officer, who shared that he found Cece clinging to the side of the tunnel and trembling. The dog was extremely scared, so the Officer took extra care not to frighten her further. In a remarkable act of kindness, the Officer allowed Cece to sniff his fingers further into the tunnel until he was close enough to gently lift her to safety.

According to Brazil’s account to WJAR NBC10, the dog seemed to express gratitude towards her rescuer. The photo shows an affectionate and appreciative Cece, who was not a stray but came from a loving home. In another interview with WJAR NBC10, Cece’s owner Michelle Perez expressed her joy at finding her beloved puppy. Perez received Cece as a gift from her mother-in-law but unfortunately lost her the next day.

The puppy named Cece is only five months old. Perez confessed in an interview that she was unable to sleep and spent her time driving and trying to reach out to Cece. Fortunately, Peggy Edwards and Officer Joe Brazil rescued Cece from the dangerous tunnel and reunited her with her owner. It is a heartwarming ending that we can all be grateful for.
